Who We Are
Established in 1996, the Wireless Innovation Forum™ comprises an international group of equipment vendors, subsystem vendors, software developers, technology developers, communication service providers, research and engineering organizations, academic institutions, government users, regulators and other interested parties who share the common business interests of advancing technologies supporting the innovative utilization of spectrum and the development of wireless communications systems, including essential or critical communications systems.
We develop the technical standards, testing protocols, and architectures that enable dynamic spectrum access and ensure the reliability of essential and mission-critical communications through software architectures that protect and advance commercial, defense, public safety, and critical infrastructure networks worldwide.
Our Committees & Work Groups
WInnForum Documents
WInnForum produces three main types of documents:
- Specifications
- Documents designed to provide a WInnForum-supported definition of specific architectural elements, technical requirements, testing protocols, or interfaces within an advanced wireless system.
- Reports
- Documents used by the Forum to formally present in-depth analyses, feasibility studies, or the current state of a relevant topic to the broader wireless ecosystem (covering regulations, markets, business, technology, etc.).
- Recommendations
- Documents provided by the Forum to external regulatory and standards organizations (such as the ITU, FCC, NTIA, or Ofcom) to present industry consensus, guidelines, or formal opinions.
All WInnForum specifications and technical reports must be balloted by the members of the Wireless Innovation Forum following the Forum’s document approval process. Only balloted documents are approved for public release. Regulatory recommendations must also be balloted unless they fall within the scope of the WInnForum Advocacy Agenda.
