Develop a high throughput, low latency and low power consumption, development portable Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) to enhance the capability of Software Defined Radio (SDR) and Cognitive Radio (CR).
Combined spectral management/ satellite receiver modem

Objective:
The objective is to construct a software defined receiver that coherently captures many simultaneous signals in 1 GHz of bandwidth around 20.7 GHz produced by as many as 8 separate but abutting transmit elements having noise floors potentially differing by >10 dB. DSP software provided must be able simultaneously to separate this IBW into software selectable depth FFT displays of the 8 transponders and into up to 100 arbitrarily centered signals having individual IBW of from 250 kHz to 500 MHz. Demodulation software for 10 commonly used waveforms should also be provided and selectable with minimum delay at the time of execution or via a canned script. In addition, the ability to record all the data in real time is desirable and to record the demodulated signal subsets is essential. All these features should be able to run in real time. The abilities to receive simultaneously other SatCom bands, e.g. 7.25-7.75GHz, and inclusion of compatible software to detect intruding users and adaptively remove interfering signals are desirable.

Call for proposals under the ICT Work Programme 2011 of the ‘Cooperation’ Theme of the Seventh Framework Programme
The European Commission has published a call for proposals under the Information and communication technologies (ICT) Work Programme 2011 of the ‘Cooperation’ Theme of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7).
The primary objective of this call is to improve the competitiveness of European industry and enabling Europe to master and shape future developments in the realm of information and communication technology (ICT) so that the demands of its society and economy are met.
ICT is at the very core of the knowledge-based society. Activities will continue to strengthen Europe’s scientific and technology base and ensure its global leadership in ICT, help drive and stimulate product, service and process innovation and creativity through ICT use and value creation in Europe, and ensure that ICT progress is rapidly transformed into benefits for Europe’s citizens, businesses, industry and governments. These activities will also help reduce the digital divide and social exclusion.
The call is divided between a variety of objectives which are classified by the following areas:

I first spoke with Joe Bobier, the CTO at xG Technology, at least five years ago, and was immediately impressed with his technical skill and vision. If you’ve not heard of xG, they’ve been plugging away for the past decade developing what I noted in the title of this entry – a broadband cellular system designed to be deployed in the unlicensed bands, and currently operating the to 900 MHz. ISM band today. I had a couple of briefings with management over the years, but, like a few other analysts I compared notes with, I couldn’t really get a handle on their product or market direction, again despite some very interesting and original technology. All that changed with the recent arrival of marketing whiz Rick Rotondo, whom I first met at another innovative firm, Mesh Technologies, which was subsequently acquired by Motorola.
